Blue and black and white still life drawings
After my collage freshmen year I wanted to paint something that was raw emotions just like my high school years. Knowing at that time I was not going to major in fine art but in Advertising I wanted to find the freedom of just making something based on my own will. At this time Pablo Picasso was becoming an intersting Artist to admire because his style was so graphic and one day I was going to become a graphic designer or an Art director. However my love for Henry Matisse never left me and this series is really an ode to them both.

Blue and Black and White Still Life Drawings
Overall, I wanted each still life drawing to be fast, the same way Pablo Picasso made his paintings, and I tried to emulate the brush strokes of Henri Mattese. Each piece is not detailed to show how the brush would move to emulate a Henri Matteese painting. Because this is an Ink and paper drawing, I wanted to have some moments where the ink is blurred because I do feel Heni Mattese does mix on canvas a bit, at least in some of my favorite paintings. After doing many drawings, I realized the series was too much like Henri Matisse, so I added the blue that is similar to Pablo Picasso's blue period. However, the blue wasn’t dynamic enough, and when Henri Mattese did his Morracan series, he utilized red. Nonetheless, I felt the red would overpower the piece. However, I felt the yellow cat with the redfish was a great piece to pull from and accomplish my goal without it competing with one another.
